How to Help
Help victims of sexual violence repair the torn fabric of their lives-one stitch at a time.
Amani Mataboro and his wife Amini Bukanda have dedicated themselves to bringing hope and a future to women who have
suffered so greatly that many had previously lost the will to live.
Now, in an eight-month program at the Kivu Sewing Workshop they repair the torn fabric of their lives. Here they learn to sew and embroider, renewing their self-esteem while also learning how to support themselves since many of their husbands or families abandon them because of the 'shame' of rape. Costs of runnig the Kivu Sewing Workshop
So far, Amani has funded the Kivu Sewing Workshop with the modest income he makes as interpreter for U.N. peacekeeping forces in the Congo. The purpose of this website is to help him meet the monthly operating costs of the school which is less than $1,500.
This includes: providing food, shelter and supplies for students who travel to Bukavu from other villages, instructor salaries, building rent and eventually supplying every graduate with their own sewing machines so they can operate their own independent business. Here’s the breakdown:
| 1) Instructors | $150 X 3 = $450 |
| 2) Students with children-Foo/Shelter/Supplies | $100 x 4 = $400 |
| 3) Students w/ no children-Food/Shelter/Supplies | $70 x 3 = $210 |
| 4) Program Director | $150 x 1 = $150 |
| 5) Transportation, Telephone, Internet | $100 |
| 6) Guard | $70 |
| 7) Building Rent | $60 |
| TOTAL MONTHLY OPERATING COSTS | $1,440 |
| (Giving graduates their own Sewing Machines = $200 each) |

For all the nobility I believe there is in telling other people's stories--there are moments when you have to be a human being first and surrender t...
